MCA - Mario Cucinella Architects
Mario Cucinella, Hon FAIA, Int. Fellow RIBA Mario Cucinella is the founder of Mario Cucinella Architects. With over 20 years of professional practice, MCA has developed a wealth of experience in architectural design, with a particular focus on issues of sustainability and the environmental impact of buildings. In 2017 the American Institute of Architects (AIA) awarded Mario Cucinella the prestigious Honorary Fellowship Award. In 2016 the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) nominates him as an International Fellowship 2016. In 2017 he began his activity as a designer working with Italian companies of excellence. As a designer he has collaborated with iGuzzini creating the families of luminaires, including the Woody collection.
Conceived as a space for meetings, debates, rest and leisure, the ForPeople collection is the result of a contamination between the concept of an amphitheatre - a central space surrounded by steps/seats - and the reinterpreted profile of a modern chaise lounge. It develops around an elliptical perimeter, generating a central grassy space and through the continuous seat - it literally embraces the user and allows for numerous uses: you can sit, you can lie down, you can stand, you can walk, etc. The bench has a dual nature: when observed from a distance it appears as a pure object, but as you get closer it reveals its practical nature and attracts the observer to its use.
